Choosing Between a Tank or Tankless Water Heater. What to Know.

You need reliable water heating in your Fayetteville home. So, when you need to replace your old or failing water heater, spend some time researching a replacement. You don’t have to install the same type of water heater. In fact, many people take the opportunity to upgrade to a tankless water heater. Here’s what you need to know about a tankless versus tank water heater.

Tank Water Heaters

People are most familiar with conventional tank water heaters. These heaters come in sizes that range from 30 gallons to 50 gallons—some even hold as much as 100 gallons of water. The tank stores water that’s heated in cycles.

Conventional water heaters work well, but they have their drawbacks. For example, the hot water might deplete fast if you have a large family. You, then, have to wait for the water to reheat. For a 40-gallon water heater, it can take 30-40 minutes for the water to reheat.

Tank water heaters also take up space. If you don’t have a large area to store the tank, it can create a cumbersome problem.

Tankless Water Heaters

Some people call these appliances on-demand water heaters because they heat water instantaneously, which is a significant feature that many people find beneficial. You don’t have to wait 40 minutes to take a hot shower if you run out of hot water.

Another benefit of on-demand water heaters is their small design. These heaters work well in homes, condos, apartments, mobile homes and any other structure where space is tight, or where you don’t want tanks to use up the space. You can install tankless heaters on either interior or exterior walls in basements, utility closets, garages, etc.

As wonderful as tankless heaters are, they do have drawbacks. One such drawback is the initial price. Tankless heaters cost more to purchase and install than conventional water heaters, especially if you’re switching from conventional to on-demand. However, tankless heaters use less energy and reduce energy costs, saving you money in the long term.
