Popping, Clanking, and Squealing: 3 HVAC Noises You Shouldn’t Ignore

Your HVAC system is responsible for keeping your Newnan, Georgia, home comfortable all year. Unfortunately, there are times when your HVAC system will need repairs. When there are problems with your system, it may let you know by emitting certain sounds. If you hear any of the noises listed below, it is time to call in the HVAC professionals.

Screeching or Squealing Noises from Your HVAC System

When your HVAC system makes squealing or squeaking noises, that can be a sign that a belt has become worn or there is a bad bearing in the blower motor. In either of these cases, you will simply need your HVAC professional to lubricate your parts or replace your belt or bearing. In some cases, the screeching noises could be a sign that the blower motor is struggling.

Repetitive Clicking Noises

While it is perfectly normal to hear a few clicks when you turn your HVAC system on and off, any type of repetitive clicking should be a cause for concern. Repeated clicking noises coming from around your compressor or at the control panel could mean that one of the relays is defective. A problem with the electrical controls can also lead to the relay timing out and failing. You should never address electrical issues on your own as they can be extremely dangerous to both you and your system.

HVAC Banging, Clanking, or Rattling

Some of these sounds point to a problem with the blower motor or its assembly. If the noise is rattling, it is likely that a part has become loose and should be fixed before it can damage other components. Louder banging could mean something in the motor has gotten disconnected. No matter which of these sounds you hear, it is best to turn your system off and wait for an HVAC technician to come.

If you notice any of the noises above, contact Trinity Air Inc. Heating & Air Conditioning at (770) 691-5394. One of our technicians will diagnose your problem and get it repaired.
