Promise Place [formerly known as The Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence] was established in 1989 as a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to serve domestic violence victims and their families in the Griffin Judicial circuit, which include Fayette, Spalding, Pike, and Upson Counties. Services for children were added in 1996.
Promise Place is a non-governmental agency and is the sole provider of comprehensive services to adult victims of domestic violence and sexual assault within the Griffin Judicial circuit, which include Fayette, Spalding, Pike, and Upson Counties. In just fifteen years Promise Place has grown from a small, grassroots organization to an active, community recognized agency with 5 paid staff members and over 50 active volunteers. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NOT JUST A FAMILY MATTER: Annual health care costs of treatment of injuries due to domestic violence are estimated to be between FIVE and TEN BILLION dollars. Four and a half BILLION dollars are lost nationally in time domestic violence victims miss due to injuries. Children in homes where domestic violence occurs are physically abused or neglected at a rate of 150% higher than the national average.
